Fred has been offered the opportunity to compete at this extremely competitive level on one of their Team Yamaha R3’s, by Ian Valleley, Team Manager of TeamVal-Tech Racing, Ian Valleley met Fred back in 2021 during his wild card debut at BSB at Donington Park.
Within the British Minibike Championships in the Mini GP 140 class, Fred finished 2nd in the 2017/2018 Winter Series and during the 2018 Summer Series finishing the season in 4th.
Moving up to the BMCRC (Bemsee) Paddock and competing in the ACU Team Green Junior Cup in 2020, Fred claimed 3rd place and followed this up in 2021 with another 3rd place and 2nd overall in the Team Green Championship. within the BMCRC ACU Team Green Junior Cup.
Additionally at the end of the 2021 Season with BMCRC, Fred was nominated and awarded the Ben Ball Trophy for ‘Tipped for the Top’. A total surprise to both Fred and the team but well deserved.
Team Manager, Ian Soilleux remarked “Fred has developed into an impressive talent that we all at BD Racing have been delighted to work with. It is hard to believe that he is only 14 years old; with such a responsible head on his shoulders. We shall continue to work with Fred within the 2022 season and support him through the next chapter of his racing career within BSB and TeamVal-Tech Racing. Good luck Fred”.
Fred commented “I am still buzzing; I think that this has to be the best Christmas present I have ever had. I am looking forward to be joining TeamVal-Tech Racing and competing in a full season at BSB on a Yamaha R3. I also cannot thank Ian Soilleux and all at BD Racing, who I have now worked with for the last 2 seasons within the BMCRC Paddock; and within whom none of this would have been possible. I won’t let you down and I am pleased that BD Racing shall still be supporting me through this next journey of my racing career.
David, Fred’s father responded “Fred has worked hard since the age of 6; starting off in Motocross. Everything Fred has done, he has thrown his heart and soul into; taking on board the highs and the lows, the praise and the criticism and seeking the rewards. #82 – Foo HINNELLS travelled 100 miles to the UK’s world famous race circuit , Brands Hatch. Situated in West Kingsdown, Kent; it’s time for the longer Grand Prix (GP) Circuit and time for Rnd 4 with BMCRC (Bemsee) and the final round for the Season.
The weather was character building, with relentless rain but this did not stop the eagerness to set up. #50 – Fred McMULLAN was also on site and setting up. #82 – Foo HINNELLS was ready for the Team Manager, Ian Soilleux to arrive first thing in the morning.
Practice Day – Brands Hatch Indy
Ian Soilleux arrived with the two BD Racing UK CBR600’s prepped and ready to go. Tyre warmers were on, wets fitted and it was time to start the weekend.
Practice went well, albeit very wet and unpleasant but the bike felt good and it was great to be back.
Qualifying – Brands Hatch GP
Being first out, this was going to be interesting. The weather had not given up all night but enthusiasm was running high in Garage 30.
Each lap, #82 – Foo HINNELLS was setting a faster time and looked comfortable. On the last lap, #82 – Foo HINNELLS set a 1:57.349, qualifying #82 – Foo HINNELLS in P6. #12 – Cedric BLOCH took pole position with a lap time of 1:54.669; #86 – Paul WITHERINGTON in 2nd with a 1:55.038 and #710 – Craig HENSTOCK (Rookie) in 3rd with a 1:55.500.
Race 1 – Thunderbike Sport
The weather had not eased, so it was wets fitted still and after forming up on the grid; it was flags down, lights on and the race began.
After an incident on lap 2, the race was red flagged and restarted with a 3 lap race.
With the chequered flag out, there was no change to the first 3 riders with #82 – Foo HINNELLS taking a podium place in 3rd.
Race 2 – Thunderbike Sport
Thankfully the weather had improved over the afternoon and the track had dried out nicely, so it was wets out – drys in and off to the collection area. #82 – Foo HINNELLS starting P5 on the grid.
After lap 1 it was #84 – Ricardo BRANCO in the lead, with #961 – Jack SIM in 2nd; #12 – Cedric BLOCH in 3rd and #82 – Foo HINNELLS in 4th.
Lap 2 saw no change in the first four, with the pack pulling away from #164 – Robert SALTMER in 5th place.
#961 – Jack SIM look the lead after lap 3, with #84 – Ricardo BRANCO now in 2nd; there was no change with #12 – Cedric BLOCH in 3rd and #82 – Foo HINNELLS in 4th.
With the last lap flag out, #961 – Jack SIM was still leading, #82 – Foo HINNELLS put in a great lap; moving up in to 2nd place. #12 – Cedric BLOCH remained in 3rd, with #84 – Ricardo BRANCO now in 4th.
With the top 5 riders encountering traffic on the last lap, #961 – Jack SIM took the chequered flag with #84 – Ricardo BRANCO moving up in to 2nd place; #82 – Foo HINNELLS claimed his second 3rd place of the weekend, with #164 – Robert SALTMER in 4th.
Happy with that !!!!!!!!!!!!
Time now to be spoiled by Lesley’s Cafe (Flying Fox Race Team) and relax for the evening in preparation for tomorrow. Garage 30 has one happy Foo.
Race 3 – Thunderbike Sport
Well, perhaps we should have brought a speedboat to Brands Hatch, Sunday morning and the weather is very wet. Ah well; lets do what we came here for………… Race!
After the first lap, it was #164 – Robert SALTMER leading the race, with #82 – Foo HINNELLS in 2nd and #717 – James SHEEHAN in third.
At the end of lap 2, #82 – Foo HINNELLS had taken the lead, with #717 – James SHEEHAN in 2nd and #62 – James KING in third.
Lap 3 and #82 – Foo HINNELLS still led the race, with #717 – James SHEEHAN in 2nd abd #12 – Cedric BLOCH moving up into 3rd place.
The top three riders did not change places after the fourth lap, with #82 – Foo HINNELLS extending the gap to 2 seconds.
And #82 – Foo HINNELLS takes the chequered flag !!!!!! Get in Foo ! 3 seconds behind in 2nd place was #12 – Cedric BLOCH; with #717 – James SHEEHAN claiming 3rd.
And it’s smiles all round !!!!
Race 4 – Thunderbike Sport
With the weather not improving, in fact getting worse; with standing water on the track, #82 – Foo HINNELLS took the decision to step out of the final race of the weekend; and the Season.
Congratulations to #12 – Cedric BLOCH on taking the win; with #717 – James SHEEHAN in 2nd and #137 – Charlie CRAWT in 3rd place.
Well done #961 – Jack SIM on winning the inaugural Thunderbike Sport “Covid” Cup.

“Well, after the highs of a win in race 3; and the weather taking a turn for the worst I have no axes to grind in the championship, I decide to quit while on top and sit the last race out. What an awesome weekend and made me realise that I’ve still got it.
Thanks to all the BD Racing UK fraternity, without them I would not be racing this year. They’ve deffo given me the will to continue racing. Huge thank you to Ian Soilleux who made this all happen. Ian works tirelessly and to whom I’ve trusted with everything. Thanks to all the lovely people who continue to follow me and believe in what I do. You all have a piece of my heart. Time for Rnd 4 with BMCRC (Bemsee) and the final round for the Season. We travelled 100 miles to the UK’s best loved race circuit , Brands Hatch. Situated in West Kingsdown, Kent it’s time for the longer Grand Prix (GP) Circuit.
Arriving Thursday night, the weather was relentless and the rain persistent; nevertheless we set up in Garage 30 in preparation for practice the following day (Friday). #82 – Foo Hinnells (also with BD Racing) was also setting up.
Practice Day – Brands Hatch Indy
Team Manager of BD Racing, Ian Soilleux arrived early and we helped unload Foo’s two CBR600’s and set up the garage ready for the start of the Practice Sessions.
Having never raced the GP Circuit, it was good to gain track time on the Indy Circuit but #50 – Fred McMULLAN had to study. This was the extra corners to be included in the GP Circuit ready for Race Day in the morning.
All went well during practice albeit the weather did not ease, Eddie Allen, Pit Crew arrived in the evening and all was in place for qualifying in the morning.
Qualifying – Brands Hatch GP
Well, time to face the GP Circuit; with a baptism of fire. Having studied the circuit a few more times it was time to see it for real. The weather was still bad, with a wet track.
As we all headed to the Collection Area, #50 – Fred McMULLAN was running the circuit layout in his head and then it was time to head out.
The first few laps, #50 – Fred McMULLAN was learning the ‘extended’ circuit and started to gain confidence. This allowed his riding to ‘flow’.
Each lap, #50 – Fred McMULLAN was setting a faster time and looked comfortable. On the last lap, #50 – Fred McMULLAN set a 1:59.716, qualifying #50 – Fred McMULLAN in P3. #55 – Harrison DESSOY took pole position with a lap time of 1:57.733; and #196 – Jack KIRSCH in 2nd with a 1:58.570.
Race 1 – Team Green
With Race 1 ready to start, the track was still wet and the riders formed up on the Grid.
Flags down, lights on and the race was underway. #50 – Fred McMULLAN didn’t have a good start dropping down to 8th place. #2 – Joe THOMAS took an early lead with #55 – Harrison DESSOY in second and #196 – Jack KIRSCH in third place.
After lap 2, #2 – Joe THOMAS had extended his lead. #196 – Jack KIRSCH had passed #55 – Harrison DESSOY moving up to second place; with Fred working his way through traffic into 6th place.
Lap 3 saw no change in the first three riders. #50 – Fred McMULLAN was riding well gaining another place, passing #113 – Mikey HARDY moving up to 5th place.
After the penultimate lap, #2 – Joe THOMAS lead with a 4.3 second gap, in front of #55 – Harrison DESSOY who had passed #196 – Jack KIRSCH. #50 – Fred McMULLAN had gained another place moving up to 4th place.
With the chequered flag out, #2 – Joe Thomas took the win for the seniors.
#55 – Harrison DESSOY won the Junior class, with #196 – Jack KIRSCH in second place, and #50 – Fred McMULLAN finishing 4th overall; and third in class.
Race 2 – Team Green
With race incidents impacting scheduled running of the races, Team Green Race 2 started late; but thankfully the track was now dry.
#50 – Fred McMULLAN had a much better start, positioned 5th on the grid moved up to fourth after the 1st lap. #2 – Joe THOMAS took the lead again, with #55 – Harrison DESSOY in second; and #196 – Jack KIRSCH in third.
After lap 2, #196 – Jack KIRSCH had took the lead, with #2 – Joe THOMAS in second, #55 – Harrison DESSOY in third; and #50 – Fred McMULLAN in fourth place.
Lap 3 saw #2 – Joe THOMAS retake the lead, with #55 – Harrison DESSOY in second. #196 – Jack KIRSCH was pushed back to third; with #50 – Fred McMULLAN holding fourth with a good gap between him and #47 – Joe FARRAGHER in fifth place.
After lap 4, the battle with the top 4 riders continued with #55 – Harrison DESSOY taking the lead. #2 – Joe THOMAS was now in second with #50 – Fred McMULLAN moving up to third place. #196 – Jack KIRSCH was pushed down to fourth place; with only 0.8 seconds between these 4 riders.
#2 – Joe THOMAS took the chequered flag for the Senior class, with #55 – Harrison DESSOY winning the Junior class. #196 – Jack KIRSCH took second place with #50 – Fred McMULLAN in third.
What a day! Roll on tomorrow.
Race 3 – Team Green
With the rain not easing all night, it was a damp morning with a wet track. 3 Races had been rolled over from yesterday so time to focus on the penultimate race.
#50 – Fred McMULLAN was P3 on the grid, with #2 – Joe THOMAS on Pole and #196 – Jack KIRSCH in P2.
“What a Season, Firstly I would like to thank my family for supporting (and funding) me on my dream. I would also like to thank everyone at BD Racing UK, especially Ian Soilleux (Team Manager) for taking me under the Team Wing and achieving my first Pole Position and my first podium finish in 1st place.
Finishing the Team Green Junior Championship in 3rd is unbelievable and to be honest, I m still smiling from ear to ear.
Already looking forward to the next season on 2021.”
In mutual agreement, Charlie has decided to step away from the BD Racing Team.
We, at BD Racing have enjoyed working with Charlie through this estranged season (due to COVID). Charlie has decided to allow the opportunity for another rider to experience working with BD Racing.
At the final round with Bemsee at Brands Hatch GP, Charlie is bringing his beloved Minitwin out for a play and also running his NEW R6 in Thunderbike Sports.
We wish Charlie all the best for next season and look forward to catching up in the paddock in 2021.
Charlie Crawt’s Statement
It has been a strange year, with the suspension of Racing due to Covid. It’s also been an absolute pleasure working with BD Racing UK.
In a mutual agreement, I have decided to step away from the Team to run my own R6 within the Thunderbike Sport Class; and also my Minitwin within the MRO’s.
This gives the Team space to embrace and mentor another Rider within the BD Racing Stable during the 2021 Season.
Ian and the Team work hard and their passion for Motorcycle Racing is extraordinary. It has been an absolute pleasure being part of BD Racing and I thank the Team for all their support, both on and off the Track.
See you all at Brands for the final round and I would like to wish Ian, and the Team all the best for the Future.
